Maceo Wright is a visionary leader whose journey from multi-sport collegiate athlete to youth sports mentor exemplifies his commitment to developing the whole person—not just the athlete. A former Division 2 football player and track athlete at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Maceo brings over a decade of coaching experience across track and field, flag football, and basketball to the Mamba Basketball program.
With an impressive corporate background spanning both private and public sectors, Maceo has excelled in leadership positions within Life Sciences, Healthcare, Regulatory, Data Science, Medical Devices, and Consumer Services. His experience with Fortune 100 FMCG companies has honed his strategic vision and organizational leadership—skills he transfers seamlessly to youth development.
Maceo's approach to coaching transcends the basketball court. Drawing from personal experiences overcoming childhood trauma, divorce, and abuse, he recognizes that mental resilience is as crucial as physical prowess. This understanding forms the foundation of Mamba Basketball's unique integration of mental health support for players, parents, and coaches alike.
In collaboration with longtime partner Alex Kern of 72 Hour Design, Maceo has created a program identity that reflects his fundamental appreciation for creativity and aesthetics—values he instills in his players alongside athletic excellence.
Under Maceo's leadership, Mamba Basketball players have achieved remarkable success both on and off the court, including two championship titles, honor roll placements, and principal's list recognitions. These accomplishments reflect his core philosophy: basketball serves as a vehicle for developing young leaders who will make meaningful contributions to their communities through service-oriented work.
Maceo's vision extends beyond wins and losses. He is building a program where young athletes develop the skills, resilience, and leadership qualities needed to create positive impact through athletics, arts, humanities, or whatever path they choose.
Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai’i, Coach Elysonne Quila has been passionate about basketball since the age of 3. A devoted father of five, he grew up playing in men’s leagues and Filipino tournaments, staying deeply connected to the game and his community.
Coach Quila began his coaching career as an assistant at the high school level, where he developed a strong foundation in mentoring young athletes. His path took a meaningful turn when he saw his daughter fall in love with the game just as he had. Inspired by her passion, he began coaching 1st and 2nd grade and also 3rd and 4th at the YMCA, where has now completed three impactful seasons.
Known for his heart, discipline and dedication, Coach Quila is committed to developing confident, team minded players from ground up. His ultimate goal is to help his daughter and his team as far as their talent and determination can take them, with dreams of one day reaching the WNBA.
